Han Groo plays Joo Jang Mi, a young woman who is desperate to get married. She is optimistic and outgoing, but her desperation for marriage often leads her into trouble. Despite her flaws, she is a lovable character who viewers can’t help but root for. Yeon Woo Jin plays Gong Ki Tae, a successful plastic surgeon who is cynical about love and marriage.

He teases her out of her grump, but in voiceover Jang-mi says that back then, they never expected the worst life-twist that was ahead for their wedding. Ki-tae wonders if he should start proposing now that the bet results are in, but Jang-mi stops him again. She wants a fancy proposal, but Ki-tae argues that he prefers the simple everyday conversations like her dad’s letters. Jang-mi says she worries that he’s only proposing since her mom is sick and he wants to take care of her. She asks Ki-tae to wait, but he rightly says if they wait until all the drama is over, it will never happen. Meanwhile Ki-tae drinks with Dad, who’s calmed down enough to say that he understands that Ki-tae was just being cautious with Jang-mi.
Man, those aunts of GiTaes are so damn annoying. There’s a reason why you three were not invited, you know. Always wanted to check it out coz the first episode recap sounds really good and am glad I get to marathon it instead. The story surprised me with how lovely it turned out to be despite it’s shortness and Yeon Woo-jin is wonderful in it.
The Romance in Marriage Not Dating
And that thing with the letter – what gives him the right to open her mother’s private letter, read the contents, steal it, and then refuse to let her daughter see it? Ki-tae’s parents have a glass of wine at a bar, where Dad tries to act pitiful without her but Mom calls him on his BS, saying she saw him pull his missing button off outside. She tells him that she doesn’t regret their time together, but that doesn’t mean she was happy – she was doing her best to live with her choice to stay. She tells Dad to take responsibility for his love, and find fulfillment.
He’s certainly very mysterious, and always seems to flicker between seeming genuine and fake. I actually think Yeo-Reum’s weird smiling is exactly that, weird. The ending of “Marriage Not Dating” is satisfying https://loveexamined.net/ for viewers who have invested in the characters’ journey. Without giving away any spoilers, it can be said that the ending ties up all loose ends and leaves viewers with a sense of closure.

Agajdkslldnsnahajjsjd this is def the best romcom of 2014. It sits as my second favorite forever and this drama totally deserves a number one spot if only i wasnt so fond of my fangirling busan high schooler. Love the stormy sky backdrop with the whole wedding tableau.

Ki-tae’s mom serves tea to Grandma and Mi-jung and says she’s been thinking about what Grandma said. Before she can announce her decision, Dad comes running in to excitedly tell them he’s been promoted to university president. I love how all three of the women’s faces are like, So what, jerkface.
I hope they get a chance to be main leads in network channels and take on bigger challenges. Definitely the breakout stars of the year for me. I’ve never seen them in anything before and I’m just so mighty impressed.
Se-ah and Yeo-rum I cared for even less except for during the beach escapade. I thought at that point they might have an interesting friendship between all of them but after that unfortunately things went back to square one. It might be the writing, the acting or a combination of both but they have not added anything aside from being plot devices.

I’ll always remember her as Jang Mi, just like everyone who watched Girl K remembers her as Girl K. I super loved that Mom, Grandma, and Aunt were equally thrilled about staying together and giving Dirtbag the boot. Especially in the context of Korean family values. I would’ve liked to have seen Jang Mi and Ki Tae’s Mom enjoying a newfound bond with one another on this ep. (because I was even more invested in their relationship than in the OTP’s, and just wanted that well-earned pay-off), but I’m satisfied knowing that they’re ready to enjoy that bond now.
